This Too Shall Pass
Grief Painter™: Colleen

Colleen became the first Grief Painter™ after the loss of her son unexpectedly. He was only 27. Taking her through the process, I realized the power in the work I was creating. When she cried I invited her to allow her tears to fall into the painting and be the medium. I witnessed her bravery as she spent time with each stage focusing on what she was desperately trying to find relief from. For myself, I felt more satisfaction in this than anything I had ever created myself. Below is the first painting created by the Grief Painter™ process.
Colleen's Words"When I first heard about Grief Painter™ I had no idea what it was or what to expect, I just knew that I was willing to attempt anything to relieve some of the pain in my heart, left by the death of our son. After 8 months and several conventional therapy appointments I was terrified of the sorrow that I had become. When I found Faith my spirit was broken along with my heart. She took me on a journey into a place that I alone would have never dared to go. Through painting the stages of grief I was able to move through the sorrow, rather than remain stuck in it, and with my gifted and compassionate teacher by my side the terror I was experiencing was transformed into peace. It's not been 12 months yet and the sadness, the loss still hangs heavy; however, I have my piece displayed where I see it multiple times a day and it reminds me that whatever we are experiencing at any given moment is like life itself, brief, transitory, and a gift from Spirit."
